When You Never Believe Your Dog Would Bite

Your dog would never bite anyone! That is what you tell yourself and anyone else who would listen. Then, the unthinkable happens at a party with all your friends when someone inadvertently annoys your dog, causing him to bite for the first time. A scenario like this is unimaginable when you never believe your dog would bite anyone.

The Scenario

Kaitlin loved her dog Rex, but she loved her friends just as much. One day, she decided to throw a party and allow them all free access throughout the house, including her dog, hanging out in a small room. One of her friends, Amanda, saw the dog, grew a large grin on her face and quickly approached the dog. At first, Rex did not mind, but he was alert, as Amanda spoke to him and did not touch him. Then, Amanda petted Rex on the top of his head, setting him off.

The Claim

Amanda claims that Rex attacked her unprovoked. However, Kaitlin contends that Rex has never bitten anyone and would never bite anyone. Amanda responded that Rex gave her a significant bite mark needing stitches. Next, Kaitlin brought Rex to face Amanda, and the dog growled at her. Ultimately, it eradicated the perception that her dog would never bite.

Takeaways

Kaitlin could have taken preventative measures. Moreover, in an environment with many people, it could create a scenario that overwhelms animals. Rex may have never bitten anyone, but he potentially has never been in an environment with that many people before. Kaitlin should have known this. Conversely, Amanda should not have tried to pet the dog without asking. Everything changes when your dog bites for the first time.
