When Your Dog Bites Someone at a Festival

People love taking their furry friends to public events with them. It can go great until the dog bites someone at the festival.

The Scenario

Jenny went to the Doggy Day Festival, a grand event open to everyone in the community and their furry friends. It has events specifically for dogs. Jenny brought her dog Rex, an Alaskan Malamute, to the event and wanted to put him into some activities, including the doggy costume contest. Conversely, Katie brought her dog, King, a Beauceron. Both women entered their canines into the Best Large Dog Costume contest.

Rex stood next to King during the contest, and the dogs eyeballed each other. Then, the worst situation happened. Rex attacked King, and the dogs bit at one another while their owners tried in vain to stop it.

Now, Jenny is in trouble as Katie is suing her for damages.

The Claim

Both dogs became aggressive at the same time. However, Jenny’s dog attacked first. Because of this, Katie alleges that Jenny is on the hook for this. Jenny claimed that Katie’s dog antagonized her dog into attacking.

Katie claimed that Jenny should have restrained her dog, and Jenny claimed that Katie should have done the same. Ultimately, Jenny’s dog attacked first.

Takeaways

It was supposed to be a fun dog festival and turned into a mess. Both owners were so preoccupied with dressing their dogs into costumes that they did not take heed of the discomfort both dogs expressed at the costumes and each other.

There is coverage for if your dog bites someone at a festival. Acting proactively and realizing your dog’s discomfort level is best. If your dog becomes aggressive with another dog, separate them before it escalates, especially in a public venue. Festivals should be a safe place for everyone and their furry friends, and there are ways to prevent them from resulting in a lawsuit.
