When Your Dog Bites Someone at the Party
Dog bites can occur at any given moment, and plenty of people do not even consider the thought with their dogs. Since we now think of our dogs as our fur children taking them out and about is what we do. However, we tend to forget that dogs are not as comfortable.
Scenario
Ulisez brought his dog Chase to a party thrown by friends. Chase is a lovable dog and has never harmed a soul. While at the party, Kaitlin became excited and rushed to Chase, grabbing him on both sides of the face to kiss him. She cries out in pain in a split second and looks at Chase in disbelief. Then, Kaitlin looks at Ulisez and tells him she will sue him. She refused to go to urgent care because she wanted to care for the injury herself.
The Claim
Kaitlyn alleges that the dog bit her unprovoked. Additionally, Kaitlyn says that she was petting the dog in a public space and that Ulisez should have warned her that Chase was vicious. Ulisez counters that his dog has never hurt anyone, and she invaded his dog’s private space.
Unfortunately, Kaitlyn did not care for the wound, and she is now permanently disfigured from the injury.
Takeaways
- Ulizez should not have taken Chase to the party. Dog bites can happen when your doggy does not know anyone, especially if they get scared. Likewise, Ulisez did not know many guests, and there was alcohol at the party. Unfortunately, dogs are not comfortable around strange people who are drinking, as they are often loud and unsteady and do unexpected things like grabbing and kissing them. Situations like cause more dog bites.
- Taking Chase to another party would be very risky since Chase now has a rap sheet. If he injuries anyone, it will be a massive lawsuit.
- Ulizez must confirm that whatever insurance he expects to cover this incident has off-premises liability.
