When Your Dog Suffers for Another’s Mistakes

A simple delivery goes wrong! Initially, it was supposed to be a great day! You are getting a new couch! But you are not home to take care of it, and your friend left the door open for the delivery man. However, the delivery man does not know you have an overprotective dog that is home alone. Things could end badly when your dog suffers for another’s mistake.

Scenario

Stacy just ordered a new couch from the furniture store. But unfortunately, they can only deliver when Stacy is at work. So she asks her friend Dawn to stay at her house. Ultimately, Dawn agrees. But then Dawn gets a call. She has to leave the house for ten minutes. After pondering it, she decides to go and leave the door unlocked. Dawn leaves, and the delivery drivers arrive with the couch. While carrying the sofa inside, they do not realize a dog is coming their way. Stacy’s dog attacks them. Now, Stacy must pay the price.

The Claim

The delivery drivers are alleging negligence. They claimed they were doing their job and had no warning about a dog. Likewise, they want Stacy to pay for the hospital bills. Stacy contends that her friend was supposed to let the delivery drivers inside, not leave the door open. Regardless, Stacy’s dog attacked, which means she is on the hook.

Takeaways

Stacy could have handled the situation better. First, she could have found a way to reschedule the delivery. If she could not do that, the next best thing would be to have a friend who could be there without leaving. Unfortunately, Stacy must pay for the mistakes of others. It also means that her dog suffers for another person’s untimely mistake.
